Teen Number Puzzles

We made some puzzles to help students practice match teen numbers and models like ten-frames and bead strings!

Also available are some number and model cards that can be used for sorting, matching, concentration, and as calling cards for the Bingo game boards that are included!

Cookie Monster Teachers CCS K.NTB.1

We said to students, "Cookie Monster is wondering if his 14 cookies will fit in his cookie box. What are you thinking?" (His cookie box happens to look just like a ten-frame...hehe)

Yes! No! No, that box will only fit 10 cookies!

How many will be outside of the box?

100!! 6! 4! 20!

Let's check...

They don't fit! Four are outside of the box!

Fourteen is ten and some more. 14 is the same as 1 group of 10 and 4 more!

We continue with other teen numbers and build a chart together over several days.

The kiddos were so engaged and really got to practice articulating their math reasoning!

More soon!

Rolling for Tens!

We'll be sharing some photos and fun math games in the next few days so be sure to check back here regularly!

This one is called "Rolling for 10's!" We can't take credit for inventing it, but here's how you play...

All you need is lots of dice (at least 10) and a container (cup, bowl, or basket)!

We're using these large dice for demonstration
and whole-class play.

Roll the dice! Try to use all of the dice to make combinations of ten with two or more addends!

checking carefully to make sure it's ten

You could add in a recording sheet for students to write down equations.

Download the directions here:

Let us know how this games goes with your class...We're sure they'll love it!

Writing Paper Choices

Hey Everyone!

We wanted to share some of our writing paper choices from our writing workshop sessions. These differentiated paper choices are what we call "general writing paper" choices. Meaning, we use them mostly for narrative/small moment writing. These pages are horizontal (landscape) we have vertical pages as well. We have also created other paper choices for different genres and/or types (i.e. All About books, How-To books, Poetry, Persuasive/Opinion Writing). We will share other writing paper bundles soon!
Get our Free Writing Paper Choices at our TpT store:

Below are some pictures from our writing workshop. More about our other paper choices to follow! Let us know what you think or if you are interested in other paper options!

Cheers,
Stefanie and Chrissa
